Miguel Fernandez

PhD in Health & Behavioural Medicine and Masters in Psychology and Masters in Special Education (Adults and Couples)

Miguel is a warm and attentive therapist, passionate about researching and applying solutions to mental health care. His colleagues describe him as an empathic and knowledgeable clinician.

With a PhD in Health & Behavioural Medicine and Masters in Psychology and Masters in Special Education from Northcentral University (NCU) in California, USA, he has spent 15 rewarding years as a Professor of Psychology, both online and in Australia. He also holds the specialist title Educational & Developmental Psychologist, having worked as a school psychologist for many years.

Therapeutically, his present specific interests are in Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Transformational Chairwork (having written and published in both Narrative Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy). Miguel is not just a practitioner; he possesses a profound interest in shaping the discourse within the field of psychology. Miguel has been in private practice for over 15 years.

Miguel’s passion extends beyond the academic realm. He is deeply interested in the intricate interplay between our personal narratives and the world around us, exploring how our “ecology” (worldview) shapes our perceptions and solutions. Through a collaborative approach combining cognition and behaviour, Miguel seeks to replace the narratives that hinder our growth, replacing them with stories that cherish our sense of self to facilitate resolution, i.e., solving “the” problem. Fundamentally, Miguel describes himself as a Story Teller with a vision.

Beyond his professional endeavours, Miguel finds fulfilment in his role as a devoted husband and a proud father of three adult children.
